PCNE: The Mission to Evangelize continues

PCNE will continue its mission of evangelization even after Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle leaves the Archdiocese of Manila, the host diocese of the conference, to take on his new mission in Rome

Fr. Jason Laguerta, Director of the Office for the Promotion of New Evangelization, reiterated Cardinal Tagle's message at the concluding Mass of the conference, the work of evangelization of PCNE will still continue.

“As Cardinal Chito said in the Mass in the concluding Mass of PCNE 7, PCNE is not about him, it is not dependent on him. PCNE is about new evangelization so, therefore it continues,” Fr. Laguerta told the Archdiocese of Manila Office of Communications.

After Cardinal Tagle leaves for Rome, Fr. Laguerta said PCNE will continue but they will also await the instructions of the new archbishop. Fr. Laguerta expressed his confidence that the new archbishop will support what the PCNE has already begun.

"The mission to evangelize continues but as to the format whether it’s a three-day conference like we have or a two-day conference, that, we don’t know yet. The direction will depend on the new archbishop so we will take our cue from him,” he said.

“But I’m sure the new archbishop will always have in his heart the mission to evangelize because that’s the mission of the church - to spread the good news to all,” he added.

Fr. Laguerta emphasized that this year, PCNE gives highlight to the Year of Ecumenism, Interreligious Dialogue, and Indigenous Peoples. Through PCNE 7 he said, they were able to collaborate with the different ministries and commissions of Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and the Archdiocese of Manila.

“We are excited because as per our conversation with the other commissions, we are now planning for new activities and events for the whole year. So, they said, they told me, PCNE 7 is just a kick-off, it’s just the beginning of a whole year celebration of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue and Indigenous Peoples,” Fr. Laguerta said.

He will make use of his timeslot in his program. Fr. Laguerta also anchors in one of Radio Veritas' program, "Hello Father 911" every Friday. He says that this radio program will also tackle relevant topics on Ecumenism.

Also, the bi-monthly gathering in the Archdiocese of Manila called Manila Archdiocesan General Pastoral Assembly (MAGPAS) will be in the pipeline. Pocket events, small conferences, talks, and symposia will also be a means of communicating the message of dialogue during the Year of Ecumenism.

“Sa akin yun ang buod ng misyon natin ngayon na tayoý magkakapatid, tayo ay kapwa tao kaya ang misyon natin talaga ay magmahalan, igalang ang isa’t isa at lahat tayo sama-sama para tugunan ang misyon ni Hesus,” he said. (Jheng M. Prad/RCAM-AOC)
