Caritas Manila holds Damayan Kapanalig Telethon

Caritas Damayan, in partnership with Radio Veritas846 Ang Radyo ng Simbahan, will be conducting a Nationwide telethon on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Radio Veritas846 HQ. The telethon aims to raise more funds to ultimately help out the communities and individuals severely affected by the Taal volcanic eruptions.

The unexpected eruption of the Taal Volcano last January 12, 2020, caused tremendous devastation across the Calabarzon region and its neighboring areas, leaving families without homes, and lose their livelihoods with some even forced to leave their livestock just to be able to evacuate. Until now, organizations are still on high alert for any possible occurrence with the rampaging volcano; and communities, government and non-government organizations, private groups, and concerned individuals have gathered to provide as much help for those who have fallen victim to the chaos ensued by the disaster.

These include the Social Arm of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila, Caritas Manila Inc. through its Community Well-being and Disaster Management Program: Caritas Damayan. From the word “Damayan” meaning compassion, Caritas Manila unites volunteers and donors for higher preventive healthcare services, crisis intervention, emergency response, and disaster recovery and rehabilitation, putting faith into action.

Since the past years, Caritas Damayan has reached out to over 6,000 areas nationwide in helping communities, individuals, and parishes that have faced dire endeavors. Through the help of good-hearted individuals, institutions and organizations, were able to provide medical assistance such as medicine and equipment, laboratory services, Food/Crisis prevention, and preparation equipment, Burial/wake assistances and, clothing, institution referrals regarding concerns, and Medical and Dental Checkups and missions, livelihood assistance, and crisis responses.

Caritas Damayan promotes capacity building for environmental health, food, and security and nutrition, disaster preparedness, mitigation, and emergency response. Caritas has put in place a system that allows for emergency health response and disaster management, relief operation, and immediate crisis intervention.
