Traslacion 2020 activities kick off

"Traslacion 2020: Iba't Ibang Kaloob, Isang Debosyon, Tungo sa Isang Misyon."

The celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene started with the 9-day novena masses to the Black Nazarene at the Quiapo Church on December 31, 2019, to January 8, 2020, at 6 p.m. A dawn Thanksgiving Procession was held on December 31, 2019, at 1 a.m.

A concelebrated Mass for the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God was held on January 1, 2020, at 5 p.m. followed by the procession of the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 6 p.m.

Barangay visitation within Quiapo Community was scheduled for January 2-6, 2020.

Holding it for the first time in the history of the celebration of Traslacion, all estandartes from various organizations were blessed on January 4, 2020, inside Quiapo Church at 7 p.m.

A Send-Off Mass for all the volunteers of Traslacion 2020 will be held at the Quirino Grandstand at 6 a.m. Also on January 7, 2020, a blessing of all replicas of the Black Nazarene from various parts of the country will be held.

The devotees will have a chance to kiss and touch the image of the Black Nazarene known as “Pahalik” on January 8, 2020, at the Quirino Grandstand starting at 8 a.m.

The program at the Quirino Grandstand will start at 3 p.m. followed by an overnight vigil. Spiritual talks, youth dance and drama presentations, and catechesis are among the activities lined up for the occasion.

The feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9, 2020, will be highlighted with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist to be presided by Msgr. Hernando Coronel, Rector of Quiapo Church, at 12 midnight. His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle will be the homilist.

After the 5 a.m. morning prayer, the annual Traslacion from Luneta to Quiapo will take place. The annual observance of Traslacion commemorates the arrival of the image of the Black Nazarene to Quiapo, known as St. John the Baptist in 1767. (Jheng M. Prado / RCAM-AOC)
