Cardinal Tagle: Be people of dialogue

His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle led the New Year’s Eve Mass at the Manila Cathedral on December 31, 2019, at 8 p.m.

In his homily, Cardinal Tagle called on the faithful to be a people of dialogue as the Catholic Church observed World Day of Peace and the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God on January 1.

“Be people of dialogue. When we dialogue we listen, we understand. We get reconciled. We forgive and then we do not destroy each other. We do not destroy society. We do not destroy the earth,” Cardinal Tagle said.

He also stressed that having a dialogue with one another brings peace and hope.

“There will be no peace if we do not have hope. Only people who hope in God, who believe that in God's time will have a better quality. Only people of hope will work for peace. If you are hopeless, you will be violent,” he said.

Still reflecting on the importance of dialogue, Cardinal Tagle cited how Mary and the Holy Spirit became a good dialogue partner of God.

“At maganda po yung ating fiesta, the dialogue between God’s fullness of love in the Holy Spirit and Mary and in that dialogue was born the prince of peace.”

“A dialogue of prayer, a dialogue of mission, a dialogue of faith and hope, then, the prince of peace comes in the flesh,” Cardinal Tagle said. (Jheng M. Prado / RCAM – AOC)
