Archdiocese of Manila to observe “the Closing Celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee in the local churches”

The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy will officially end on November 20, the Solemnity of the Christ the King with the closing of the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.

In the Archdiocese of Manila, the Closing of the Jubilee Year of Mercy will be concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on November 13, at 6 in the evening with the Rite of the Closing of the Jubilee Door of Manila Cathedral.

The Jubilee Doors of the pilgrim churches will all be solemnly closed with a Eucharistic celebration on November 12. The Jubilee Doors of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Divine Mercy in Mandaluyong, Santuario de Santo Cristo in San Juan City, and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Pasay City will all close at 6 p.m. while the National Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Makati City will close at 4:30 p.m.

The archdiocese also announced that the closing of the Jubilee Doors will mark the conclusion of the pilgrimages.  Pilgrim’s passport will no longer be issued after November 12. Those who have completed their pilgrimage but have not yet gotten their certificates may go to any of the Jubilee Churches until November 30.  Certificates will be issued to them provided they present their Pilgrim’s Passport with complete stamps.  After November 30, the Jubilee Churches will no longer issue certificates.

Parish churches, communities, and institutions that opened a Door of Charity should choose a day before November 12, 2016 for their closing.

During this Holy Year of Mercy, His Holiness Pope Francis puts emphasis on the value of forgiveness, healing and reconciliation so we can be closer to God.

"Here, then, is the reason for the Jubilee: because this is the time for mercy. It is the favorable time to heal wounds, a time not to be weary of meeting all those who are waiting to see and to touch with their hands the signs of the closeness of God, a time to offer everyone the way of forgiveness and reconciliation."
