In his homily, Cardinal Tagle emphasized Mary’s important role in the salvation history. The Cardinal used the story of Man’s fall from grace to show how this dialogue of blessing and harmony between God and the first humans got disrupted when “human beings refused to harmonize themselves with the calling and the will of God.”

He pointed out that  when man chooses his own paths, write our own scenarios, and value our own words rather than God’s, harmony and dialogue are destroyed.

Then, when an angel bearing God’s message reveals himself to Mary and announces God’s proposal. All of humanity awaits Mary’s answer, MAsy's words: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to your Word,” harmony and dialogue with the creator are restored! Through Christ, the Word that will become flesh in here, the dialogue continues, and it will never be broken again.

The Cardinal reminded the faithful that during these times, we are reminded to listen to “angels” sent by God. Listen to their message and remember that we are graced by God. Believe that He will be with us, assisting us in spite of our resistance. Cardinal Tagle urges us, even in a whisper, utter the same words of our Immaculate Mother, “Let it be done to me according to your word.”

The Cardinal’s homily comes after the formal announcement of his appointment as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (Propaganda Fidei), December 8, 12:00 p.m., Vatican Time. (Jolo de Jesus/SOCOM-Immaculate Conception Parish)
