Even Pains caused within Families can be Source of Grace

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle led the 4th Usapang Totoo at Katoto (UTAK), a regular avenue for the youth to dialogue with the Cardinal. The event was spearheaded by the youth of the Archdiocese Manila Commission on Youth at Paco Catholic School, Manila on November 16, 2019.

The participants of the forum came from the different parishes under the Vicariate of San Fernando de Dilao. There were youth sharers who talked about brokenness in their family and a mother who shared the pain of losing a child.

The Cardinal expressed his empathy for the young sharers. He affirmed that the real and nuclear family cannot be changed no matter how imperfect it may be. However, by the hands of God, the youth can still be saved from any unfortunate situation by their own relatives, parish communities and movements in order to make them feel they are part of a family.

"Kapag mas nalalapit ka kay Hesus, 'pag mas sumusunod ka sa kanya, lumalambot ang puso mo," Cardinal Tagle also emphasized. Their agony can be turned into something greater that leads to a call to serve the Lord and one another, especially those who are in need. "Ang dusa ng isa ay dusa ng lahat. Ang ligaya ng isa ay ligaya ng lahat," he added.

The recent UTAK forum pointed out how the nuclear family plays a very important role in society and the Church. As a family, relationships are vital for the fruition of the children's values and how they manage the negative experiences as they grew up.
