Cardinal Tagle: Family is a gift not a burden

“Minsan may kumakalat na pananaw na ang pamilya, pabigat. Kaya yung iba ayaw na magka-pamilya o kaya ipo-postpone hanggang hindi na magkakapamilya. Kasi mag-aasawa 75-years old na e, talaga naman paano ka pa naman magkakaanak."

This was the message of Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle during his homily for the “Family is a Gift Conference” held at St. Paul College in Pasig City, on October 26, 2019.

Cardinal Tagle reflected on the people’s perspective that family is a burden, the reason why many delay marriage.

“Ayan palipat lipat ng girlfriend, ng boyfriend pero postpone ng postpone kasi pabigat e, pabigat. E, pero itong pagtitipon natin, we affirm something quite contrary to what people say. Ang pamilya ay hindi pabigat. Ang pamilya ay regalo ng Diyos,” he said.

He also added that the family that Christ built is called the Church.

“And the family is called the Church in the home na sana si Hesus din ang nagtitipon. Siya ang gumagawa at humuhubog ng pamilya ng Diyos,” he said.

Family is a Gift Conference was organized by the Archdiocese of Manila Commission on Family and Life in coordination with the Archdiocesan Commission on Youth and Couples for Christ.

In line with the celebration of the Year of the Youth, the Vicariate of San Fernando de Dilao will hold Youth and Family Encounter at the Cardinal Sin Auditorium, Paco Catholic School, on November 16, 2019, at 7 a.m. It will be followed by Usapang Totoo at Katotoo (UTAK) with Cardinal Tagle.
