We are called to be holy not scary - San Felipe Neri Parish Youth Ministry's Holy-Win: Dress Like A Saint Contest "

"Sila po ang nagpapaalala sa ating lahat na isa lang ang ating dapat paghirapan, pagsikapan makamtan at 'yan ay ang kalangitan." says Rev. Fr. Hans Magdurulang, Parochial Vicar of San Felipe Neri Parish, in his homily during the Holy-Win: Dress Like A Saint Contest.

On Sunday, October 27, 2019, the San Felipe Neri Parish Youth Ministry (SFNPYM) hosted their 7th Year of Holy-Win: Dress Like A Saint Contest at San Felipe Neri Parish, Mandaluyong City.

The Holy-Win: Dress Like A Saint-Contest is a yearly activity of SFNPYM where the children, the youth, and the adults are dressed in saints’ vestments or costumes to bring back the celebration of the "Hallowed Eve" or the Feast of All Saints, rather than letting them wear scary and horrific costumes of ghosts, witches, and other evil characters. Instead of Halloween, it is named as “Holy-Win” where the saints are honored and glorified with God for their victory against the temptations of sin and their success in attaining holiness.

Participants were from different ministries, areas, and organizations under the San Felipe Neri Parish. There were thirty-one participants who registered for the event whereas twenty participants for Children's Category and eleven participants for Youth Category.

The program started with the presentation and introduction of the Saints' that they are portraying with their most famous quotes or lines. Some did a little role play and sang for their chosen Saint. Each participant was on their best character and attire to really let people see the Saint that they are portraying to. Resourcefulness, creativity, and simplicity were evident.

"Sobrang saya at fulfilling sa pakiramdam na ginagawa ng Simbahan ang mga ganitong event...sa pamamagitan nito ay nakakapaglingkod ako kay Hesus" said Ms. Irish Peralta, who portrayed St. Therese of the Child Jesus.

Concluding the event was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Hans Magdurulang. Before the final blessing, the winners of the said contest were announced and awarded. The Holy Win Dress Like A Saint is not only a contest but an occasion that teaches everyone to be holy, not scary.
