UST Canon Law to hold Seminar on Matrimonial Law

In response to the call of Veritatis Gaudium and the Instruction on the Reform of the Matrimonial Process, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Canon Law will hold a one-day Seminar on Matrimonial Law including a review of the canonical understanding of the Sacrament of Marriage and the grounds for the declaration of nullity of marriage. This seminar is intended primarily for Parish Priests and their vicars, and any cleric who may be interested in the topic. Speaker is Rev. Fr. Julius Paul Factora, O.P., J.C.D., an Assistant Professor at the UST Faculty of Canon Law, and Regent of the UST College of Nursing.

The seminar will be held on October 24, 2019, Thursday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the UST Martyrs’ Hall of the UST Ecclesiastical Faculties. The seminar objectives are: To strengthen the Parish Priests’ knowledge of the sacrament of marriage, to provide the Parish Priests the opportunity to properly respond to people who are possibly interested in verifying the nullity of their marriage and help them determine if there are possible grounds for nullity, and to make Parish Priests able collaborators of the Matrimonial Tribunal Personnel so that the latter becomes more effective in their ministry. Registration fee of Php 500.00 will cover the expenses of the seminar including lunch and snacks.

Through this seminar, the Holy Father’s apostolic letter MitisIudex Dominus Iesusis made relevant and known to the clergy. This will be the first of two parts. Another seminar will be on the new process of the declaration of nullity for those who want to become familiar with the procedure.
