Japanese Orchestra to hold a concert in the Year of the Youth

The Worldship Orchestra from Japan will hold a free concert at the San Pedro Calungsod Youth Center, Knights of Columbus in Intramuros, Manila on September 7, 2019, at 2:30 p.m.

The WSO will perform together with the Tondo Chamber Orchestra from the community of San Pablo Apostol Parish in Tondo.

The concert is part of the activities of the Archdiocesan Commission on Youth in line with the celebration of the Year of the Youth.

Worldship Orchestra (WSO) was founded by leader, Akihide Noguchi. It caters free classical concerts for children in various Asian countries.  Since its first concert series in  February 2015, the orchestra has reached no less than  15,000 kids in the  Philippines,  Thailand,  Sri  Lanka,  Indonesia and  Cambodia  partnering  with  the  local  orchestras  in  the  said  countries.  The group also gives free music workshop for children in different schools, institutions, and youth orchestras.

According to Oggie Cayetano, a youth member of the Archdiocese of Manila, music unites people wherever they are.

“We always hear that Music is one of the universal languages.  It connects people of different nationalities and culture and distinguishes each from the others,” Cayetano said. (Jheng M. Prado/RCAM-AOC)
