Vicariate of Santo Nino Youth Challenged to Say 'Yes' to the Lord

The Vicariate of Santo Niño celebrated its Vicariate Youth Day with a jam-packed of activities at the San Pablo Apostol Parish on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

Dubbed with the theme "I am the Servant of the Lord, may it be done according to your word", the young people who attended the event were filled with series of talks and sharing, youth jam, and praise and worship.

Make A Ruckus

The Vicariate Youth Day commenced with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Jade Licuanan, commissioner of Archdiocesan Commission on Youth (ACY). He was joined by Rev. Fr. Allan Dizon, Spiritual Director of San Pablo Apostol Parish Youth Ministry and Rev. Fr. Arnel Calata, Jr., Vicariate Youth Director of Santo Nino.

In his homily, Fr. Licuanan encouraged the youth to make a ruckus as reminded by Pope Francis in his post-synodal letter to the young people, Christus Vivit.

"Ang sabi ni Pope Francis, lalo na kayong mga taga-Simbahan, mag-ingay kayo, magwala kayo. Anong klaseng pag-iingay at pagwawala? Yung ingay ng kabutihan at magwala ng kabuluhan," Fr. Licuanan said.

Fr. Licuanan who celebrated his 51st birthday last August 31, was greeted by the young people who attended the celebration.

You're Not Alone in Saying Yes to the Lord

Speaking in front of the youth, Vicariate Youth Director Rev. Fr. Arnel Calata, Jr. pointed to the young during his Opening Remarks that in saying “yes” to the Lord, they are not alone.

"Kung tunay na gusto nating sumagot ng "yes, Lord" tandaan natin na hindi kayo nag-iisa, at hindi kayo mag-iisa sa pagtugon ng oo." Fr. Calata said.

How the Youth Will Say Yes?

Seminarian Jesus Madrid who currently in his 4th year taking up Theology at San Carlos Seminary shared with the young people his experiences on how he was able to say Yes to the Lord despite his woundedness.

"Posible palang magmahal sa kabila ng kawasakan. Tara, magbigay ng sarili at mag-yes kay Lord," Bro. Madrid said.

He stressed that a person who is willing respond God’s call should know and trust Christ. He also needs to surrender himself and his brokenness to the Lord as well as being consistent to his commitment and must face challenges with the help of Christ.

Fiat Ng Kabataan Inspirations

In the forum segment, Usapang Kabataang Tondo #FiatNgKabataan, Rev. Fr. Calata who is also the youth director and assistant priest of Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Niño Tondo, reminded the young people that they are not alone in their journey in life saying, "Lagi tayong may kasama sa pag-oo natin."

During the activity, some of the young were able to share their journeys in saying yes to the Lord.

"Si Mother Mary, ituturo niya sayo kung ano ang tama."
Sis. Lisa Manguben the youth coordinator of Minor Basilica of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz

"Find your heart and you will always say yes to the Lord."
Ejay Espiñosa
Medical doctor by profession and coordinator of Vicariate of Espiritu Santo Youth Ministry and San Roque de Manila Parish Youth Ministry

"Lagi natin tandaan na ang pag-oo natin kay Lord, nauna na siyang om-oo sa atin."
Bro. Justin Gatus
Seminarian from Holy Apostles Senior Seminary Bro. Justin Gatus reminded the Vicariate Youth Ministry

The participants from the vicariate of Sto. Nino for the National Youth Day held in Cebu last April 2019 also shared their experiences in the NYD, encouraging the other youth to participate in the next NYD.

The segment was hosted Ms. Kat Beral of the Archdiocesan Commission on Youth and Ms. Babes Cayetano from San Pablo Apostol Parish.

After Saying Yes, What Now?

During the second talk for the VYD entitled "After my Yes, What Now?", Mr. Oggie Cayetano, Vicariate Youth Coordinator of Vicariate of Santo Nino Youth Ministry reminded the young on the reason why they say yes in serving the Ministry.

"Dumating sa punto sa ministry na ayaw mo na magpatuloy, ngunit si Hesus hindi nangako ng masayang buhay, hindi niya sinabi na hindi ka niya pahihirapan. Pero pinangako Niya na di ka Niya iiwan. Lagi lang natin tatandaan kung bakit tayo nandito." Cayetano said.

He also advised them to return to the Lord if they feel broken or empty.

"Pag dumadating na nasisira ka na, balik ka sa Diyos kasi Siya ang makakabuo sayo, kasi alam Niya kung paano ka Niya aayusin. Bago ka minahal ng mga tao sa paligid mo, tandaan mo na may Kristong nagmamahal sayo. Kapag binigay mo kay Kristo ang oo mo, hindi Siya makikipag-break sayo," Cayetano said.

The whole day event also showcased talents who performed in various activities like song, dance, short skit and spoken poetry from the youth ministries of the seven parishes under the vicariate.

Seminarians from the Holy Apostles Senior Seminary (HASS) were also there to join the activity and invited the young people to see priesthood as a way of answering God’s calling. (AJ Llanes/ SOCOM - Vicariate of Santo Nino/Archdiocesan Shrine of Santo Nino – Tondo)
