6th National Conference in Manila Puts Youth on Center Stage


The Sixth Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE6) will be held from July 19-21, 2019, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas in España, Manila.

The theme for this year’s PCNE is “Filipino Youth Walking with Jesus” which is aimed to celebrate the Year of the Youth as declared by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and is part of the preparation for the 500 Years of Christianity in the country.

On July 19, the start of PCNE for All will focus on the theme “World of New Generations”. Bishop Rex Alarcon of the Diocese of Daet will preside the Misa ng Bayang Pilipino, at 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the youth will have a chance to speak about their joys and pains, anxieties and hopes through a conversation with Cardinal Tagle called “Heart to Heart with Cardinal Chito”, at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo will lead the evening prayer at 5 p.m.

The second day of the conference will focus on the theme “Discerning: A Listening and Accompanying Church”. The segment “A Listening and Accompanying Church” will tackle the experiences of the youth ministers and their youth discipline while the “Hungry Souls, Holy Companions” is a Staged Reading or Spoken Poetry that will narrate the young people’s clamor for a Church that is welcoming and a clergy and consecrated persons that are willing to listen and journey with them. At 5 p.m., Cardinal Tagle will lead the evening prayer.

The last day of the conference will explore the theme of the Year of the Youth “Filipino Youth in Mission: Beloved, Gifted, Empowered. There will be three segments for the day namely: Segment 1: Praise and Worship (Youth as the Now of God); Segment 2: Youth Jam (Testimonials, Dances, and Songs); and Segment 3: Young people and their encounter with Family, Community and Country, Fellow Youth Church and God. The celebration of the Holy Mass and the Commissioning of Missionary Disciples to be led by Cardinal Tagle will culminate the activity.

Apart from the plenary sessions, there will be 10 concurrent sessions on education, culture, mission, youth, social advocacy, catechesis, social media, new trends in youth ministry, family, and FGD with the Young (“Mga Hugot at Galak: The Joys and pains f the Filipino Youth in the Catholic Church).

PCNE 6 introduces Youth Pathways and Spaces that are composed of various activities where the participants can participate all throughout the four days. The activities include a Labyrinth, Prayer Walls, Counselling, Confessions or other Group Prayer Activities.

Cardinal Tagle introduced PCNE in 2013 as a local response to the call of the new evangelization. It was first held from October 16 to 18, 2013, with the theme “God makes all things new (Rev 21:5).”
