In his homily during Mass for the feast of St. Anthony de Padua on June 13, he said that all the gifts God bestowed upon us should not be used for personal consumption. Rather, it must be used for a mission.

“The gift will be there generously given by God, but we can waste the gift if not used for the good of the people and that’s how mission is important,” Cardinal Tagle said.

“The gifts given to us by God are not for personal consumption. All the gifts, they are given to us for a mission, which is to make Jesus known to strengthen brothers and sisters, and to strengthen the community. Without the sense of mission, the gifts will be wasted,” he added.

Cardinal Tagle also emphasized that the talents and intelligence every person receives are all God-given gifts. But he also pointed out that the most important gift every human should possess is the gift of love for God and neighbors.

“Only in love will the different gifts will work together for the common good,” Cardinal Tagle said.

The feast of Saint Anthony of  Padua is celebrated every 13th of June. He is called the “Priest and Doctor of the Church”.  He was from Lisbon. He was a devoted student of scriptures and was first to teach theology to his fellow friars. He was a gifted orator and preacher and was known as the “Evangelical Doctor”. He is invoked for lost articles and the patron saint of harvest, the poor and Portugal. (Jheng M. Prado/RCAM-AOC)
