2016 MACC Painting Competition winners announced

The Manila Archdiocesan Cultural Heritage of the Church announces the winners of the 2016 MACC Painting Competition on February 13, 2017 at the Museo ng Arkidiyosesis ng Manynila in Intramuros, Manila at 3 p.m.


With the theme on Catholic faith, the winning art works and finalists of the painting competition have been put on exhibit at the Museo ng Arkidiyosesis ng Maynila (MANA).


The winners were: John Raphael D. Carloto (TUP), “Sa Mata ng Bata”, first place; Mac-J G. Turla (EARIST), “History of Sacrifice”, second place; and Mark Leo G. Maac (Bulacan State University), “We Can’t See him, But We Can Feel Him,” third place.


Three Juror’s Choice awards were also given to C’ae Le Cia L. Duron (UST); Aldrin S. Balingit (San Sebastian Catholic Church, Pasig); and Mark Jay V. Bambao (Sacred Heart Parish, Oriental Mindoro).


The panel of judges include Ambie Abaño, collections management expert, consultant and curator of Fundacion Sanso; Ricky Francisco, senior director for Arts and Culture of Ayala Foundation, Inc. and Ayala Museum; Maria Elizabeth Gustilo, assistant curator of Ateneo Art Gallery; Joel de Leon; and Professor Jamel Obnamia of the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Fine Arts.


The painting competition now on its 10th year is held annually by the Archdiocese of Manila’s Commission on Cultural Heritage.  It seeks to engage young artists in contemporary artistic interpretation of the Catholic faith and to promote awareness and appreciation of the religious art.


The exhibition runs until February 24, 2017 and is located at the third floor of the Arzobispado de Manila, 121 Arzobispo St., Intramuros, Manila.  It is open from 9-11:30 am and 1:30-4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
