Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez dies at 79

 

Retired Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez of Marbel died on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at the age of 79. 

Bishop Gutierrez passed away at about 5:03 am in hospital in General Santos City according to CBCP website.

He would have turned 80 on February 20.

“Please pray for the repose of his soul,” said Bishop Allan Casicas, the current leader of the Marbel diocese.

Gutierrez, former head of the Church’s National Secretariat for Social Action (Nassa), served the diocese for 35 years.

He stayed on after the retirement age of 75 until his successor was appointed in April 2018.

Gutierrez was a strong advocate for the environment in South Cotabato, a province threatened by mining interests.

Under his leadership, the diocese led the struggle against the copper and gold project of the foreign-backed Sagittarius Mines, Inc. in Tampakan town.

Bishop Gutierrez’s wake will be at the Visitation and Prayer of Christ's Faithful  Parish Gym, Cathedral Compound, Koronadal City from February 10-19.

On February 19, there will be Mass at 7:30 p.m. at the parish gym. At 8:30 p.m., the Rite of Reception of the Body will be held in the Cathedral of Christ the King. Vigil Service follows.

The funeral mass will be on Feb 20, at 3:00 p.m., at Christ the King Cathedral. (CBCPNews/RCAM-AOC)
