Archdiocese of Manila observes Ash Wednesday

Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo presided the Ash Wednesday Mass at the chapel of Arzobispado de Manila in Intramuros on February 14, 2018 at 7:30 a.m.

In an interview with Bishop Pabillo of the Office of Communications of the Archdiocese of Manila, he said that we receive and respond to God’s love if we repent from our sins.

“Dahil sa mahal tayo ng Diyos tumugon tayo sa kanyang pag-ibig, tanggapin po natin siya. Yan po ang diwa ng Kuwaresma, pagsisisi kasi tinatanggap natin ang Mabuting Balita,” Pabillo said.

He further added that as we enter into the season of Lent this Ash Wednesday, we are called to repent for our sins and have a change of heart.

“Tanggapin po natin ang abo tanda ng ating pagtanggap sa commitment na tayo ay magsisi at magbagong buhay,” he said.

The Auxiliary bishop of Manila also presided the Ash Wednesday Mass at the chapel of Radio Veritas in West Avenue, Quezon City at 12 noon.

The Lenten Season begins with Ash Wednesday to the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. The priest, deacon or lay minster imposes the ash on the forehead of the faithful saying, “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”. The ashes came from the palms that were blessed in the previous Palm Sunday which have been burned.

Aside from fasting and abstinence, the faithful are asked to do alms giving. (Jheng Manalang Prado/RCAM-AOC)
