Pope appoints new Apostolic Nuncio to RP

His Holiness Pope Francis has named Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, the Vatican announced on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 12 noon (6pm, Manila time).

Caccia, 59, succeeds Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto who was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia.

Born in Milan, Italy on February 24, 1959, Caccia was ordained priest on June 11, 1983.  He has a Doctorate in Sacred Theology and a Licentiate of Canon Law. 

In 1991, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and served in the Apostolic Nunciature in Tanzania. 

On June 11, 1993 he worked in the General Affairs Section of the Vatican Secretariat of State.

He was appointed Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State on December 17, 2002

On July 16, 2009, the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon and Titular Archbishop of Sepino.
