“Walk for Creation” opens 5th Season of Creation

The Archdiocese of Manila will open the Fifth Season of Creation with a “Walk for Creation” and will mark the 2nd World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation at the Burnham Green, Luneta Park on September 1, 2017 from 4 am to 8 am.

Theme for this year’s celebration is “Caring for Our Common Home in Communion with Communities.”

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle will preside the Holy Mass at 4:30 a.m. He will be joined by Manila Auxiliary Bishop and chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity Most Reverend Broderick Pabillo. The Mass will be aired over Radio Veritas at 12:00 noon.

The Walk for Creation is a Symbolic Walk of Commitment to Care for the Creation and aims to respond to the call and message of Pope Francis to hear the cry of the earth and cry of the poor in his second encyclical, Laudato Si.

Initiated by the Global Catholic-Climate Movement-Pilipinas together with various faith communities and ecological and social movements, the Walk for Creation will be followed by series of activities like songs and dances for Mother Earth, video clips of group initiatives to Care for Our Common Home and messages from Most Reverend Leopoldo Jaucian, Bishop of Bangued and chairman of CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth and Most Reverend Rolando Tria Tirona, Archbishop of Nueva Caceres and National Director of CBCP-NASSA/Caritas Philippines.

The Ministry on Environment and Disaster Response has organized a day-long program to celebrate the Archdiocesan Opening of the 5th Season of Creation also on September 1. The ministry is also in collaboration with the Intramuros Administration, various Environment NGOs, private sector, and government agencies.

There will be a Laudato Si Village at the Plaza Roma to host the various educational events like workshops and demonstrations of solutions to climate change. There will also be prayers and reflections on the impacts of climate change. 

Aside from these activities, there will be Laudato Si Conference Logo design contest to be held in the morning at the Plaza Roma in Intramuros. The signature campaign to Pledge the living of Laudato Si will also be launched after the 12:10 Mass at the Manila Cathedral.

Meanwhile, all the parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila will celebrate the Season of Creation from September 3, 2017 to October 8, 2017.

The Season of Creation starts on September 1 and culminates on October 4, Feast of St. Francis. 

September 1 was proclaimed by His Holiness Pope Francis as the World Day of Prayer for Creation on 2015.
