Cardinal Tagle receives warm welcome in Caritas Jordan

His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, D.D., President of Caritas Internationalis visited Caritas in Amman, Jordan from July 14-16, 2017.

In his visit, Cardinal Tagle received a warm reception from its director, Wael Suleiman and was also welcomed by the different members and staff of Caritas Jordan who are dedicated in serving their poor brothers and sisters.

Cardinal Tagle, in turn expressed his gratitude and assured them of the confederation’s support and prayers.

“My dear brothers and sisters in Caritas Jordan, I would like to thank you for the warm welcome you have given to us.  I am very much edified, touched by your generosity and your openness especially from our brothers and sisters from Iraq. You give the world so much hope and you can count on the support of the international confederation and our prayers. May you get the consolation, the peace that you deserve because you have loved and served the Lord in other people,” he said.

He visited the “Garden of Mercy” located at Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Madaba where some of the works of Iraqi refugees are displayed.  He had the chance to talk to the refugees who shared their struggles and difficulties in life.

He also celebrated Mass at the Church of Annunciation in Jubal Luwaibdeh. The Mass was attended by Filipino communities in Amman and Iraqi refugees and their families. Fr. Gerald Metal of the Diocese of Antipolo, Apostolic Nuncio in Jordan Alberta Ortega, and Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Junever M. Mahilum also attended the Eucharist Celebration.

Cardinal Tagle also visited and blessed the newly refurbished Caritas Jordan headquarters building. He asked the blessing of the Lord and the Holy Spirit to come down to dwell in the hearts of the people of Caritas Jordan who are faithful to its mission of helping the poor people.

“When the spirit enters a person, one becomes a missionary. And so we ask the Lord not only to bless the building but to bless each one because each one is a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.  We may have a beautiful building but if our hearts are not on fire with mission, then it is not true Caritas” he said.

One of the goals of Cardinal Tagle’s visit is to look at the situation of the refugees and assures them that the confederation endeavors to do its best to be able to adequately provide for their needs as well as to check the status of the Overseas Filipino Workers in Jordan.
