Blood donation – Archdiocese of Manila’s birthday gift to Cardinal Tagle

The activity entitled “RCAM Celebrating Life…a Birthday gift to our Archbishop” served as Archdiocese of Manila’s birthday gift to Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle.

Now on its tenth consecutive year, this Dugtong Buhay project was held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the fourth floor of Arzobispado de Manila in Intramuros from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In an interview with Cardinal Tagle by Radio Veritas, the Manila Archbishop thanked the Lord for the gift of life and expressed his gratefulness to all blood donors.

“Salamat po sa mga nakibahagi sa bloodletting sa araw na ito. Idinaos ito bilang regalo sa aking kaarawan. Napakaganda na ipagdiwang ang buhay sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay-buhay sa iba. Papuri sa Dios na nagbigay-buhay. Salamat sa inyong maka-buhay na adhikain,” Cardinal Tagle said.

A total of 52 bags were collected from the donors from the schools, parishes, and employees of the Archdiocese of Manila. A few employees from the Social Security System (SSS) Recto and San Mateo branch also donated blood.

The bloodletting drive was organized by the Human Resource Department (HRD) of the Archdiocese of Manila in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross.

Data from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) state that, 118-units of blood are required per hour or 2,832 blood units per day and 1-million blood units per year in the country but only 771,000-blood units were collected last year.
